ANVIL-5000 6.0 UPDATE FILES
Warning: These files can
only be used to update existing ANVIL-5000 release 6.0 installations. Do NOT use them with any other release.Currently,
ANVIL-5000 6.1 - Y2K Compliant Updates
may be obtained by emailing a request to MCS
Technical Support.
The list below shows the fix
executables that are available for all varieties of ANVIL-5000 release 6.0. To retrieve
the appropriate update, choose the computer and operating system combination you're currently
using to run ANVIL-5000. Those that don't contain links can be obtained by
contacting MCS Technical Support.
Following each entry is the name of
the compressed archive file, the size of the download in bytes, and the name of the
uncompressed executable file. For DOS and Windows NT, the files are self-extracting ZIP
executable files. For UNIX, the files are tar archives of the Unix-compressed
"anvil5k.exe". For VMS, the files are VMS save-sets of the compressed
"ANVIL5K.EXE".
In all cases, you should extract the
compressed files into a temporary location, then copy the executable into the directory
where ANVIL-5000 is currently installed. Detailed installation instructions are provided below the
list of downloads.

UNIX Installation
Instructions
Use the OS-native "tar" command to extract the single file
"anvil5k.exe.Z". Then use UNIX "uncompress" to get the executable, and
copy it over the existing ANVIL-5000 executable. For example:
%tar -xvf ./DecULTRIX.tar
anvil5k.exe.Z
%uncompress anvil5k.exe
%cp anvil5k.exe $mcs$anvil/exe
DOS Installation
Instructions
This file is a self-extracting executable, so all you need to do is enter the name of the
executable at the command prompt, then copy the file to the ANVIL-5000 directory. For
example:
>PCDOS.EXE
Inflating: A5K.EXE
>COPY A5K.EXE C:\ANVIL5K
where "C:\ANVIL5K" is the
disk:\directory where ANVIL-5000 is installed.
Digital VMS/VAX
Installation Instructions
The VMS files have been compressed using the A5KPACK.EXE utility located in the MCS$ANVIL
directory where ANVIL-5000 is installed. A similar utility, A5KUNPACK.EXE, is used to
uncompress these files after they have been extracted from the VMS Save-sets. To use the
unpack utility, a symbol should be defined. For example:
$A5KUNPACK :== $MCS$ANVIL:A5KUNPACK.EXE
$BACKUP/VERIFY/IGN=(LABEL,INTER) VMSVAX61.BCK []
$A5KUNPACK ANVIL5K.EXE
Windows NT
Installation Instructions
Since this file is a self-extracting executable, simply type the name of the executable at
a DOS command prompt, then copy the file to the ANVIL-5000 directory. For example:
>IntelNT.exe
Inflating: a5knt.exe
>copy a5knt.exe c:\mcs\anvil5k
where "c:\mcs\anvil5k" is
the directory where ANVIL-5000 is installed.
